The Cottage of contentment?

At last I may have found that elusive place in the sun. Mortgaging my pay for the next 20 years is not that much fun though...

Pipped at the post

Just as I was about to offer on a property somebody got there first.

Oh dear!

buy a wreck?

One thing I have noticed is that a lot of sitting tenants who bought their council houses have usually spent large sums on doing up. Sometimes you view one that hasn't been touched since council days and you find that it's a bit of a time capsule. Some of these things are desirable of course like original fireplaces and built in wardrobes, others not so like no central heating in places that were still council owned in the 21st century.

It may be that the tenants didn't want central heating but it's still a bit damning of the local authority's management of what are substantial assets in the form of housing estates.

Found

Well I have now found a property I like, and am now awaiting move in date.

The costs have increased more than fivefold in the ten years it has been since I last bought one.

Maybe this is the one?

At last, somewhere to buy. It's expensive and I'm mortgaging my pay until retirement but it makes sense- I think and it will hold most of my stuff.

The end of the search - but not the end of the process.

I've now seen all the flats I want to, and that are available to me. Now comes the point where I either make an offer that I want accepting and am prepared to go for or to give up. It seems that I may just give up and wait. This is not really what I want to do, but I'm not at the cottage of contentment yet! There are possibilities out there but is there one for me?
